Keith Johnson has been the MAPS Treasurer/Membership Chair for the past 0.8622 years. He appreciates the trust that MAPS members have given him, and will continue to do his best to serve the organization, only occasionally resorting to injections of questionable humor just to lubricate the wheels of finance. Under his supervision, the MAPS treasury has grown considerably; however, he realizes that his stewardship actually had very little to do with this surprising occurrence. . Before arriving on the East Coast, Keith served as treasurer for SWAP, PPA, and IPS; but he disagrees with those who claim this demonstrates that he’s just a slow learner. He is currently the director of the Edelman Planetarium at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey (and hopes that his recent application for long-term occupancy of that position is successful, though you may have noticed that he didn’t ask any of you for letters of recommendation…). He has served in planetariums associated with colleges and universities throughout his career. He points with pride to the fact that only one of those planetariums was closed down after he left, though he admits his last facility suffered a very close call in that regard. (He claims that he rode out of town in his own personal car, and that there was no rail in sight). He also disagrees strongly with those who denigrate such facilities, and states forcefully that institutions of higher learning ARE a part of the real world. He thanks you all for the opportunity of serving his profession, and for granting him the power, through his officership, of being reimbursed by his university for conference attendance without having to go to the trouble of actually presenting a paper. Further information about Keith’s past involvements can be seen at http://users.rowan.edu/~johnsonk/ (but you need a special access code to see the really juicy stuff). |
