Middle Atlantic Planetarium Society Candidate for Board Director

Paul Krupinski

Mobile Dome Planetarium

Strasenburgh Planetarium of RMSC

Buffalo, New York

Greetings fellow members of the Middle Atlantic Planetarium Society!  I am grateful for the nomination of Board of Directors and look forward to continue serving YOU, our cherished members of MAPS.

For those who do not know me, I’m Paul J. Krupinski from Cheektowaga, New York, a large suburb 10 miles east of Buffalo, the City of Good Neighbors.  I’ve been a member of MAPS longer than I can remember, attended my first planetarium conference in Wheeling, WV in 1990 and haven’t missed one since.  In over a decade and a half, I’ve been so fortunate to meet new friends, share some ideas, and collaborate with the finest planetarians this business has to offer.

Currently, I’m Director/Owner of the Mobile Dome Planetarium and Show Presenter/Technician of the world renown Strasenburgh Planetarium of the Rochester Museum & Science Center.  I am so very fortunate to have the best of both planetarium worlds.  I offer 20 different current, topical interactive and participatory planetarium presentations targeting students as young as Pre-Schoolers, to freshmen in High School.  Yet, I understand the complexity and diversity of manually operating the opto-mechanical Carl Zeiss Mark VI star projector, while interacting with dozens of carousel and special effects projects…all this, plus more, under one of the largest domes in the US.  Under either dome, my goal is to capture the audience with awesome beauty of the night sky as it should be seen, under perfect viewing conditions...that’s what a planetarium does best.

Indeed, continuing to serve this great body of science educations would once again be an honor and true privilege.  MAPS is unique and diverse of planetarians; some on-the-edge-of-their-seat in the ever changing digital planetarium world, while others presenting hundreds of shows per year with but a single voice, and maybe with just one carousel slide projector.

That's our group!  Whether under a portable or major planetarium dome - we all have one goal: strive to touch our audience, so the curious beings that they are, will step outside on a clear night and marvel at this amazing universe in which we all live.

 Thank you.
