Middle Atlantic Planetarium Society Candidate for Secretary

Sam Storch
Candidate for Secretary

Planetarium Director

Edwin P. Hubble Planetarium

Brooklyn, New York

Sam Storch- A MAPS member for more than three decades, Sam is the Director of the Edwin P. Hubble Planetarium in Brooklyn, New York.  Sam served as MAPS Treasurer for a few years before his election to the position of Secretary. He is a Fellow of the International Planetarium Society.  In addition to his work in the planetarium, he is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Physical Sciences at Nassau Community College and has presented a Philosophy of Science class through Kingsborough Community College’s program for high school seniors.  He was a lecturer at New York’s Hayden Planetarium for over twenty years and carries the torch of astronomy wherever he goes.

An avid deep–sky observer, he can be found on (the rare) clear nights climbing around and pushing along his 17.5–inch reflector.  Active in occultation observing and eclipse–chasing too, he served as the Vice President of the Astronomical Society of Long Island and has edited its newsletter continuously since 1983, a quarter century ago!

After receiving the distinct professional honor of presenting the Margaret Noble Address to our Society at its 2008 Conference, “more than ever I feel that serving the Society as its Secretary is a satisfying way to repay the membership for the tremendous intellectual and spiritual recharging given me every time we get together and share what we do best!”

Nobody else understands what we do in our domes; we’d best stick together united in our professional commitment.
